One of the things about removing old sealant is the type of sealant cleaner you use.
Removing butyl tape from roof.
Not all new dicor lap sealant products work with every roof cleaner or sealant removal.
Step 2 cover the remaining adhesive with adhesive remover or paint thinner such as toulene.
This cleaner even if left to dry may react with the new sealant and cause your rv s roof to bubble.
Then remove the siliconised paper and gently manoeuvre the butyl tape into position.
One such brand is epdm roof cleaner.
This will help loosen the adhesive.
Hair dryer to warm up and rolled it off.
I use a very thin blade metal scraper purchased from lowe s round the corner on the scraper to about a 1 8 radius bend the blade about 1 from the end to about a 10 deg.
Lay the end of the scraper flat against the epdm rubber roof and proceed to work the handle back and forth.
The butyl tape is not tape for this application it comes in a pump can and is applied much like caulk in a caulking gun but can reach into much smaller recesses and is pumped into and behind the rubber channel edges both on the glass and body sides.
Scrap up the surface tape with a putty knife.
Must the surface be dust free and clean.
Continue to lift up on the tape with the putty knife razor blade or scraper until all of the tape is loose so you can remove it.
Mix hot water with a squirt of liquid dish soap.
Pull the tape up slowly and get as much adhesive as you can while removing.
Sometimes can warm up the sticky stuff and roll push with fingertips kinda hard on the fingers depends on how sticky the original butyl tape is.
Yup this is what i did.
